Ode to the Downey Ball

I have studied up the Downey Ball,
I don't know what it means.
But it softens up my underpants,
And gentles up my jeans.
Amazing still, you Downey Ball,
Great softening dispenser.
How do you work and dump your load?
My study gets intenser.
So I opened up a Downey Ball
To see its operation.
Lid and ball was all I saw
No further information.
Just empty space inside the ball,
No special moving parts.
How can it know to empty out,
When once the rinsing starts?
I don't know why it puzzles me,
To not know how it works.
It's sort of like the coffee pot,
And how the water perks.
It doesn't matter how it works,
I only know it does.
It softens up my ankle socks,
De-statics lint and fuzz.
Oh Great and Special Downey Ball
You plastic blue invention,
You freshen up my stinking things
With static shock prevention.
So to the Gods of Downey Balls
I sing my little ode.
Please soften up my clothes and things,
In every laundry load!
~End~
So much drama! So much mystery!
Ok, this really is the end.
