Some Silly Poetry
I'm not all that crazy about poetry. Most of the poetry I've had to read has been sad, emotional, bleak, dismal or greeting cards. I will admit that on rare occasion a silly bit of poetry amuses me. A few I have even memorized. Back in the 50s when Mad Magazine was the pinnacle of satire and fun I can still recall the silliness of the following:
"Nothing to do, nothing to do,
Put some mustard in my shoe.
Smear some jelly on a latch,
Eat some dirt and strike a match."
Now I have no recollection what it was in reference to, but over 50 years has passed and I can still remember laughing my little kid head off about it. Since then, on very rare occasions, the muses punish me by sending me idiotic poems to write. I have no clue why they send them to me, they know I don't like poetry. I have to stop what I'm doing or get out of bed and write the dang things down right away. Perhaps one day I will put them all together in a book of poetry that you can give as gifts to punish your loved ones with!
Select which lovely piece of highbrow literature you'd like to suffer through. 😁
